Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to my official blog. If you're looking for something in particular, you might want to type keywords into the search feature on the left-hand side of the page. And I've added a BLOG INDEX on its own page (a bit more complete than the one below) to make it easier. Poking around is also encouraged.

And please do leave comments! Don't be confused by the "author" field in the comment form. When you are writing a message to me and my readers, you are the author. (Nice role reversal, huh?)

Time For a Giveaway

After all, it's a brand new site, it's a brand new day...and I just happen to have one last ARC (advance reader's copy) of my brand new Young Adult novel (debatable, as always) Jumpstart the World.  Check out its book page if you want to know what you're getting into (and with this book you just might).

Here's how easy it is to get into the running: just leave a comment.  That's it.

A note to my wonderful (and I do mean that sincerely) UK and other out-of-the-US readers: this applies to you as well.  I'll draw the names out of a hat, so you know I can't be subconsciously prejudiced by postal rates.

Not only will I be getting the new site off to a good start, but I'll find out right quick if anybody is having trouble with the comment feature.  If for any reason you don't see your comment, just go to the contact page and let me know.  Nobody's had any issues so far, but with my old site there was one version of Internet Explorer that just never would line up.  Probably won't happen again, but now is a good time to find out.

I'll collect comments all through the rest of June and July, and announce a winner at the beginning of August.

Thanks for reading my books, my blog...and good luck!

I am the teacher in an academic camp that is using Diary of a Witness to discuss bullying. They were really upset with Will's dad for letting them go out in the water without an adult. We discussed why that was not appropriate and how things could have turned out differently.

As a reader and teacher, thank you!

Love reading! It would be refreshing to read one of your books, arlene

June 18, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine Ryan Hyde

When it said author, I took it for your name, sorry. Here I go again: Love reading! It would be refreshing to read one of your books, arlene

June 18, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Vogele

I can see how that confused you, Arlene. You're on an author's website. and a form asks for the name of the author. I'll have to figure out if that's something I can change or not. If not, I'll warn people next time, i.e., "You are the author of the post."

Love the new site and can't wait to read your new books . . . would love to win the ARC.

I kind of liked the author thing . . . it's like you are saying, we too can be authors just be commenting on your blog.

June 18, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCathe Olson

I feel like I shouldn't enter, so feel free to ignore this if I shouldn't be. HOWEVER, I am really excited for this new book. It sounds amazing and October just seems too far. :( aww haha

Of course you can enter, Lauren! Glad you stopped by the new site.

Hi Catherine,
You know I'm a huge fan of yours! I'm always egearly waiting for your next novel to come out - especially if I can get hold of it in the UK!
I do like your new website but I have to be honest that I prefered the black background and white text of the old website. My son has Irlen Syndrome and I know for him (and anyone else who suffers with that) the words jump around on the page if the background is white and text black. It's a minor point and apart from that the site is really user friendly - even my mum who is also a huge fan could use your site very easliy!
On a poisitive note, I love the fact that you edit and "look after" your own site. Also that fans can contact you direct. That really makes us feel important and that you value our views.
Can't wait to read your next novel.
Kerry.

June 20, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKerry Reichelt

Thanks, Kerry.

You are important. And I do value your views. Without you I'd be out of a job.

Sorry about the issues with black-on-white. It's funny, in a way, because the one complaint I got over and over with the old site was the readability (or lack of same) of the gray text on a black background. I guess it shows that no one thing will work for everybody. But your positive thoughts and comments are much appreciated.

Thanks for continuing to read my work and my site. And yes, the new YA novel is available for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk.

Hi Catherine,

I'm from Australia and for some reason its really difficult to find your books over here... but that could just be I live in a small town... and I'm not a fan of ordering books online - it doesnt have the same wonder as getting books from a library or book store!

so I've read and watched Pay it Forward - and I absolutely love it!!!

would love to read more - and I am in the process of getting the libraries (because then everyone can read them) to order them in =)

June 21, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterEmily Brough

Hi Emily,

It is optional to leave your email. But if you choose not to, please do check back at the beginning of August to see if you won. If you did, you'll want to contact me, because I won't know how to contact you.

Thanks for coming to my site and blog,
-Catherine
