Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to my official blog. If you're looking for something in particular, you might want to type keywords into the search feature on the left-hand side of the page. And I've added a BLOG INDEX on its own page (a bit more complete than the one below) to make it easier. Poking around is also encouraged.

And please do leave comments! Don't be confused by the "author" field in the comment form. When you are writing a message to me and my readers, you are the author. (Nice role reversal, huh?)

My Dog, the Cat

Okay.  This was my morning.  After five years of living with a camera-shy pup, this morning I was able to film Ella doing something she does often, that I think is a bit unusual: she washes her face like a cat.

I read somewhere that the Chinese Crested is the only dog who does this, and Ella is half Chinese Crested and half Scottie.  I don't know if that's true, if all Chinese Crested dogs do, or if no other dogs ever tried it.  I don't even know if anybody believed me..until now.

I know it's a weirdly small thing to get excited about, but usually Ella is upset by the little "bing" sound the video camera makes when I turn it on.  And then, whatever she was doing before, figure she'll just stare nervously at me from that point on.  Today she ignored the bing and didn't seem to notice that I was pointing the camera at her until about halfway through.

Hey...you know me.  I'm grateful for the little things!

Here it is.  Proof.  My dog is part cat.

So cute!

Wiki doesn't do it often, but I have seen it happen. I also used to have a bunny who washed his face like that all the time and it was the cutest thing ever.

Now that I would like to see! Too bad you didn't get video of the bunny face wash. That would be a case of cute overload for sure.

I might have a bunny video floating around somewhere. I'll have to hunt some down. If not, I might be able to get one. The bunny lives with one of my college roommates. Three of us got him together, but only one could have bunny custody after graduation.

Well, I'm already planning a "pets under the covers" blog post. Maybe I'll end up with a face-washing one as well.

Soooo Cute!! Glad you finally got proof!! Boy, I wish you guys lived closer to us... Ella looks like the perfect playmate for Tucker. I can totally see it now... Tucker following her around, with his famous "But I LOVE HER!!" look on his sweet face.... That would be Awesome. :)

Where do you guys live?

In the City of Roses, Portland, Oregon. :)

Very sweet! I love that you caught it on film! I think Petal and Ella wash their faces the same way--they lick first on the underside of their paws. Petal does that, and she's a Chinese Crested. Very cute!

Thanks for watching my video, Cheryl. I don't know too many people who have a Chinese Crested!

My Perez washes his face like that! I didn't think to get a video but I do have a couple of pictures.

That deserves an update! We now have Petal Rainfield, who is full Chinese Crested, and Perez Kubo, who is 0% Chinese Crested.
