Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to my official blog. If you're looking for something in particular, you might want to type keywords into the search feature on the left-hand side of the page. And I've added a BLOG INDEX on its own page (a bit more complete than the one below) to make it easier. Poking around is also encouraged.

And please do leave comments! Don't be confused by the "author" field in the comment form. When you are writing a message to me and my readers, you are the author. (Nice role reversal, huh?)

Beautiful World

I'm not a hundred percent sure what got into me. Except that for many years now, I've had the feeling that I should be doing more with my photos. A couple of days ago the idea to create this video came out of nowhere, and I didn't ask any questions.

All of the photos are mine. And the Vivaldi music is legally and respectfully reused (the attribution is in the video information on YouTube).

Some of the photos are from far-flung countries like Tunisia, India, France, Italy, Greece and Peru. Some are from the beach at the end of my street.

Thirty different types of animals make appearances.

What's the theme? That it's a beautiful world. What's the purpose? To help others, and myself, remember that it's a beautiful world. If you enjoy it, will you share it with others? Clearly I have no financial motive here. I just wanted to share what I've seen through my cameras lens, and see what others think.

Here is Beautiful World:

So much to see, I had to watch it twice. A wonderful reminder of what a truly beautiful world we all share.

Thanks, Marianne. The fact that we all share it is a hugely important point. I hope that, as a society, never lose sight of that simple fact.

That's wonderful :)

Shamefully, I haven't been out with my camera at all this month... I'm hoping to wake up to snow on Saturday so I can go out and get some winter wonderland type photos. Just as long as it doesn't snow during the week... I'm too busy at work!

Winter shots can be so breathtaking. I'll look forward to seeing them! (Whenever.)

This is truly a great collection of photos. You've been fortunate to have experienced such beauty and captured it with your camera for all to enjoy. Thanks for sharing!

Marvelous. I think the world that shows up in our pictures reflects the world within us. If you don't mind me saying, this essay says as much about you as it does our wide, wonderful world. Beautiful. Thank you!

A very nice thing to say about me, Stevan. Thank you. And, Ralph...great to hear from you. Still getting outdoors? Still writing?

Catherine, you have an amazing ability to tap into the Universe's flow of creativity, with your writing AND your photography. Lovely, lovely video. Left me with a great feeling of peace.

Yes! Thank you. What better response than a feeling of peace. I'm beginning to think the greatest gift we can give each other is a glimpse if that innate sense that everything is going to be all right after all. Thanks, Dianne.

Breathtaking. Glorious. What a great time-out to remind us what it's all about. Thanks! Wow, are you a great photographer!

Your blend of visual art with sound art (thanks to Vivaldi) creates a new work of beauty. It was lovely for me to re-experience many of the places I've been and loved, this time through your eyes. Thank you, Catherine, for this generous gift. It gives me hope....

Catherine,
Thanks so much - great images, great choice of music, & a call for gratitude, one of the few things which stand a chance at saving the world.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCSPerryess

Thanks, Charlie. Gratitude is a subject close to my heart. I know sometimes it feels like the only thing that stands a chance at saving me.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine

These made me smile in recognition of many of the beautiful locales -- loved London in the rain, and Venice at Carneval -- and in recognition that one thing we all have in common is the capacity to know and appreciate beauty when we see it. It also reminded me that gratitude and grace go hand in hand. Thank you for sharing this.

I've been to some of those places I liked the tempo and the memories I recalled - Dino

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdino airali

Thanks, Margot, and Dino...I do think it's a bit of that human connection that I seek by creating and sharing this. If it evokes the same feeling in others, that's a profound form of communication, in my view.

That was great, thanks for sharing! I'm officially jealous of you for all the amazing places you've been. Do you have a side job as a photographer for National Geographic or something? Those pics were unbelievable.

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKD

Oh, I wish. They probably pay well. But I'm really very much an amateur. I have just seen some cool things. You can, too. It's never too late.

Catherine, thank you for the reminder.
Beautifully shot, edited and Vivaldi was the perfect choice!

Hi C, Yes to both...just got back from a trip to Grand Junction, CO. It was a blast. First time I'd seen mesas and palisades. Still lots of writing too. I think the comments here make a good point...you really could sell some of these photos. Do you ever write about your adventures in these places?

February 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRalph Scherder

Funny you should ask. My agent and I are just about to go out with a book of essays. About half involve outdoor adventures. I'm still hoping we can get the photos involved, but of course that makes the book very expensive to produce. We'll see.

February 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine

Gorgeous, Catherine... yes, it is a truly beautiful world that we all share. Thanks for this beautiful reminder...
