Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to my official blog. If you're looking for something in particular, you might want to type keywords into the search feature on the left-hand side of the page. And I've added a BLOG INDEX on its own page (a bit more complete than the one below) to make it easier. Poking around is also encouraged.

And please do leave comments! Don't be confused by the "author" field in the comment form. When you are writing a message to me and my readers, you are the author. (Nice role reversal, huh?)

Cover Reveal for Pay It Forward: Young Readers Edition!

I ask you... how cool is this?

This is the new cover for the young readers' edition of Pay It Forward that Simon & Schuster and I are working on right now. It's suitable for kids as young as eight. It's scheduled for August of '14. And it's available for preorder right now.

If you are a Pay It Forward fan, please spread the word. Tell teachers, tell parents, tell kids. Finally, it's coming, a version of Pay It Forward that can be read by kids younger than Trevor.

I'm looking forward to it, and I welcome your comments!

August will be here before we know it, Mrs. Donney.

Catherine,
I'm so excited for this development for young readers. It's such an important message for people of all ages. I will be attending the Big Sur Writing conference in December and look forward to meeting you. I m also an avid hiker and am planning on bringing my boots! Hopefully, we will have time to explore the beauty of Big Sur. Again, my congratulations to you.

Hey, see you there, Kristin. I'll be bringing my dog, and I'm hoping there might be time to do a bit of the Pine Ridge Trail--it's the only one she's allowed on.

Hello Catherine and readers. I was bouncing up and and down as I had just received my first batch of PIF Bracelets and go ahead to share the movement in South Africa and the bouncing increased when I came here to follow up on my progress with it. My daughter has done her first act of kindness and gave her bracelet to a boy at school this past Friday. A big portion of the work I wish to do in SA is in fact that kindness can be a better tool than anti-bullying to eliminate the latter until it is non-existent. And then I headed off to pre-order and froze ... I know time flies, but I so wished it was earlier to spread the word as I am starting this in schools when new school year opens early 14th January 2014. The children are all focused on exams now and looking forward to the long summer holiday. I just can not wait to get this book in my hands and I do hope an audio will follow too. Sunshine greetings to all from the Mother City, Cape Town, South Africa.

Hi TheresaAngela, Thank you so much for your comment and for making yourself known to me and my readers. I'm very excited about the children's edition, too. I'm not sure if there's an audio in the works. But if I don't hear of one I'll ask about it, and send your request along.

The dream becomes a reality. When I first read PAY IT FORWARD, as a middle school counselor, I could "see" the benefit of sharing this concept children. Now...finally...IT WILL HAPPEN.

As a grandmother of three little ones (ages 4, 3 and 2)...this is a book I WILL share with them when the time is right.

Thank you, Catherine, for doing your part to bring PAY IT FORWARD to a whole new audience!

The cover is inviting, inspirational and worthy of discussion. I love the acorn. (One year when I attended Lance Secretan's summer conference in Ontario, we were given little wooden acorns to take home with us to represent the potential for growth that could come from what we were learning. Would that have possibly been the year you were the keynote speaker?)

That's an interesting question, Sue, and I can't answer for sure because it was so long ago. But I'm guessing they were different years. Because, knowing me, if I had been there that year, I'd still have the acorn.

I hear you...I still have mine! :-)

After changing at the gym before i walked out the owner stopped me and said somebody bought me a hoodie and told me to pick any one i wanted, the person wanted to remain anonymous. The next day i picked somebody i thought was nice and paid for a hoodie that the owner would give them right before they left.

I am a teacher of 7th graders. I was wondering if this version would be appropriate for their age level. If so, I will be ordering some for each of my students. Thanks

April 29, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermike

It should be ideal, Mike. The publisher lists the age level as 8-12 and the grade level as 3-7. I hope I hear more about what your class thought of the book!
