Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to my official blog. If you're looking for something in particular, you might want to type keywords into the search feature on the left-hand side of the page. And I've added a BLOG INDEX on its own page (a bit more complete than the one below) to make it easier. Poking around is also encouraged.

And please do leave comments! Don't be confused by the "author" field in the comment form. When you are writing a message to me and my readers, you are the author. (Nice role reversal, huh?)

Fun Games for Book Birthdays

Today is a double book birthday for me. Other than the day we brought out my four backlist titles as ebooks, I've never had more than one book released on a single day. Today my newest novel Walk Me Home goes on sale from Amazon Publishing, and When I Found You re-releases in an Amazon Encore edition.

And I'm trying to think of a way to celebrate that's new and different. So here goes.

Did you know that authors just love hearing your favorite lines and quotes from the books? Well, I can't speak for all authors, but this author does. A lot of you haven't read Walk Me Home yet. Then again, I've been giving away lots of copies, so some of you have. Or will. Very soon. And I know a huge number of you have read When I Found You.

So if you'll take a minute to tell me your favorite line or lines in the comments below, I'll choose the ones that match with my own favorites, and give some more books away. If I choose you, just name a book of mine that you haven't read, but would like to. And that's what you'll win.

Don't forget to enter your email address in the comment form, so I can contact you if you win. I will not contact you for any other reason. And remember the "author" field in the form is for the author of the comment (you) not the author of the books (me).

Easy, right? I try to make it easy. I still have tons of books in my garage from the days when I traveled and spoke. Books don't belong in my garage. They belong in your hands.

Have at it!

"He touched the roses as if they were puppies with their eyes still closed, or rare old books edged in gold leaf, and she knew he'd love her garden and it would love him back."

I'd love to get "Becoming Chloe"...I have "Always Chloe and Other Stories" and have started to read it, but I would like to know what came before.

Thanks,
Rebecca

"It's like people who want to feel only happy, but not sad" she said. "It never works. You either feel things or you don't. You don't get to pick and choose. At least, I don't think so."
-Grace, 'Don't Let Me Go'

I love how ordinary people, some with extrodinary problems, come together for the sake of a child. In doing so, everyone reaps the benefits of community.

Do the quotes have to be from the two books mentioned in this post?

If they don't ...here are two of my favorite quotes...thoughts that Russell had in WHEN YOU WERE OLDER:

"I looked again at the photo of my parents, and was hit with a strange and disturbing thought. I'm an orphan. Then I shook it away again. Orphans are little waifs, dependent minors. I was a grown man whose parents were both dead. Lots of adults fall into that category. Granted, most were older than me."

AND

"I was re-experiencing how perky she always looked. And, in reality was. It was a nearly oppressive amount of perk."

Either of the books above would be great to win...or...BECOMING CHLOE.

Thanks for another chance to win!

The only book of yours I have been fortunate enough to read is "Pay It Forward", but the quote I love from that one has become my mantra for living and teaching. It is “There is no wrong way to perform an act of kindness.” And my friend Sean Dennison has such high praise for your work that I would be honored to read anything you have written--probably the one you think best exemplifies who you are. And if you like, I would be glad to send you a copy of my new book in return. It's here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Songs-Of-My-Heart/533467936673885

If there's a war inside, it'll find its way out, I guess. You can't just fight with youself. . . . I can't breathe here. This is hell. I'm sorry. I mean for me. My hell. -

I love your books - haven't read either one so it would be an honor to read either one !!

Thanks to all who jumped on this bandwagon so far. I was actually hoping for quotes from the two books in question, but I won't disqualify anybody. I'll just throw in a few extra judging points if the quotes are from Walk Me Home or When I Found you.

I love, love, loved When I Found You. I'm passing it on to my mother and twin sister to devour.

That's a nice compliment for a book, when you share it with people you love. Thanks, Iris!

"Nathan. you made sure my head was supported. Even when you thought I was dead, you made sure my head was supported. And all the way to the hospital. Did your arm get tired? I bet it did. Now just finish your soup, OK?"
I loved "When I Found You", "Becoming Chloe", and (my favorite) "Don't Let Me Go", but I haven't read any of your other ones yet. I would love to have the book "Don't Let Me Go" since I read it on my Kindle and would like to share it with my friends.

Mary, I don't know if I'm right or wrong to tip my hand early on, but that's a winning entry. That's one of my favorite lines from When I Found You, too. Thanks for coming to the blog and getting involved in this,

I have not read either of these books but fell in love with "Don't Let Me Go " and "Walter's Purple Heart". I hope to read all of your books!

Thank you, Tara! I'm so glad you enjoyed what you've read so far, and I hope you read them all, too!

I would love to get Becoming Chloe. I think that is one of the few books that you've written that I DON'T have!!

Tara and Fran, I'm hoping you'll give me a favorite line or two to get in the running.

I love this.."situations are like that. They take up all the time you used to use for working eating and sleeping. They soak up your whole life like a black hole in space soaks up the sunlight. And then, where you used to have a life, all you have is a situation."

Would love to have pay it forward. Love the way you write!

Ooh. Ooh. Only tipping my hand because I didn't say how many winners there would be. That's a major favorite of mine, too. I don't have enough hardcover Pay It Forwards, but I could send a trade paperback, or even an advance reader's copy.

Okay, feel totally greedy.. but since these are the last 2 books I've read of yours this week.. Have to jump in.
Currently reading 'When I Found You'.. and there are two moments in the book that I loved:

Nathan: "There are some differences.. some... complications.. inherent in our odd situation"
Nat: "I don't know what the word means."
Nathan: "Inherent?"
Nat: "Yeah."
Nathan: "It means built in."

Later in the book...
Nat asked "Do you even like me..?"
Nathan: "I see value in you"
Nat: "Is it inherent?"
The old man laughed as though Nat intended the question as a joke. But it was actually a serious question.
"Yes. It's inherent."

Oh, I'm glad you jumped in, Laura. Because you did hit on a passage that's one of my favorites as well.

May 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine

I just finished Walk Me Home. It's a fine novel, Catherine. Here are two of my favorite quotes:

"Situations are like that. They take up all the time you used to use for working and eating and sleeping. They soak up your whole life like a black hole in space soaks up the sunlight. And then, where you used to have a life, all you have left is a situation." p. 214

"You ran into some unexpected kindness. That's a type of magic all its own. That's like magic wearing a disguise, like a false nose and glasses, so you think it's something more everyday than all that." p. 346

Here's one of my favorite quotes from When I Found You:

"Your house is so comfortable," he said. "But that's the problem. It's too comfortable. It's like that magic dream land where you never have to do anything. No responsibility. Like being a little kid. It's addictive. Now that I tore myself out of that, and kind of pushed myself into the whole life thing ... well .. I can feel how easy it would be to slide right back again. Now that I'm started, I better keep going. Easier than starting all over again." p. 417

I sure love your stuff, Catherine. I love that you see so much magic in such unassuming places! I have favorite quotes from your other stuff, too, but I'll save those for another day.
